Langholme Lake boasts a new lake record. More here.

Langholme Lake History

From a derelect sand pit, discovered in the late 90's, Langholme Lake has quickly blossomed into one of the North's premier carp fisheries. The efforts of the members simply can't go unnoticed as hours and hours of hard work has turned the lake from a baron, bleak and bland area of wasteland into something that all the members can enjoy and consider a home from home.

The early years brought few members. Catches were plentiful, although the fish were hardly exceptional in terms of size. An average weight of 12lbs could be expected with many fish chosing to feed during the early hours. Not satified with the warmer weather, the more hardcore members fished during that first winter - and what a harsh winter it turned out to be. With time and effort, certain 'hot-spots' were located, with the Wood Bank becoming a firm favourite amongst those initial members. For the winter-anglers, the Wood Bank became a chilly weekend hideaway.

Providing Names

As the months rolled on, and in true carper's style, fish and pegs earned their names. To the Eastern side, many fish were captured from a part of the lake which appeared to be totally flat, however, there were one or two pockets of features which anglers would fish to. Flat, pockets? The peg just had to be named the Snooker Table - and so it was. There were some more obvious names for pegs. Entrance Bay, The Island and Finger Bay were just crying out to be christened with their names as was the biggest peg on the lake - The Ballroom. Other names still leave anglers wondering about the origins. White Bucket, for example, or Pinky & Perky's baffle the newer members as to how those pegs got their names. Either Pinky, or Perky will tell you if you ask!
